I launched the 3,000 Kilometers Run initiative as part of the Unity Step Alliance under Setaleur Unity with a clear and straightforward objective: to transform physical effort into a practical mechanism for fundraising in support of children’s hospitals, beyond traditional or symbolic campaigns. The initiative was built on personal commitment, transparency, and the idea of using sport as a tangible form of solidarity From the outset, I participated as the first volunteer, completing 317 kilometers over 27 days, with individual running sessions often lasting between two and a half and three hours. However, continuing the initiative as originally planned became increasingly challenging, leading to the decision to temporarily suspend the project a decision that warrants clear and respectful explanation
Health-related reasons
During the execution phase, I developed a severe ear infection, which medical assessment later linked to prolonged use of headphones during extended running sessions. Such conditions should not be underestimated, as neglecting them can result in auditory or neurological complications.
Following direct medical advice, it became necessary to immediately cease intensive physical activity. Continuing the challenge at that stage would have been irresponsible and inconsistent with the core principle of the initiative prioritizing human health and safety over symbolic endurance or numerical targets
Organizational considerations
In parallel with the health-related issue, organizational challenges emerged concerning the medium-term management of the initiative, particularly with respect to:
Donation coordination and tracking mechanisms
Real-time financial transparency
The need for an operational structure capable of supporting a long-term initiative without excessive reliance on individual effort
It became evident that proceeding without organizational restructuring risked undermining the initiative’s effectiveness or diverting it from its original mission, which would contradict Setaleur Unity’s commitment to responsible and sustainable philanthropic action.
A temporary suspension, not a cancellation
It is important to emphasize that this decision represents a temporary suspension, not a cancellation or abandonment of the initiative’s objectives. The choice was made based on a realistic assessment of health and organizational risks, not due to a loss of motivation or commitment.
In my view, philanthropic work is not measured by uninterrupted continuity, but by the ability to pause when necessary, reassess, and return in a more mature and sustainable form.
Closing note
I take full responsibility for this decision and sincerely acknowledge everyone who followed, supported, or believed in the initiative from its inception. Transparency with the public is not optional; it is a fundamental component of any effort that seeks to serve the public interest.
Any future updates regarding the initiative or its potential restructured form will be communicated in due course, grounded in stronger health and organizational foundations
